SSAA Mackay Branch Inc. provides monthly firearms (Category A, B, C, D & H) safety training courses during the months of February – December. Refer Calendar for dates.
Course structure includes firearm Legislation, safety, the use of long arms and pistols if required, as well as background on the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia. This is followed by written and practical assessments. Training is conducted by Certificate IV trainer assessors under the Australian Qualification Training Framework.
Membership to both the S.S.A.A. and local Branch Amenity are offered but not mandatory.
Start time is 8:00am with a close of about 2:30pm depending on numbers.
Bring some smoko. Tea and coffee are available free of charge and there is a drink machine stocked with coke etc, however it only accepts $1.00 coins.
Attendees are required to bring...
- photo identification (eg Drivers Licence, School ID, Passport)
- enclosed shoes, (no thongs or sandals)
- SSAA Membership card (if a member) or verification of membership
- and the required money for the course. No cheques or cards please.
Prices may vary over time and depending on what course is required.

A typical Firearms' Safety Course comprises Section 1 and the Elective for Category A & B firearms.
# You may wish to join S.S.A.A. on the day.
If so, the price of the Firearms' Safety Course is as per S.S.A.A. Membership (SSAA-Join us) plus the cost of the chosen firearms course as a SSAA Member.
* Junior non-members receive membership to SSAA National included in the cost.
Certificates of Competence are posted directly to you from the SSAA (Qld) office.
